WELCOME TO YOUR
VOCAL TRANSFORMATION

For actors wanting a method for doing impressions, voice over work, character creation, singing styles, and folks looking to build their foundational work for accent and dialects.

What we’ll work on together

LEARN ABOUT YOUR INSTRUMENT

Knowledge is power. We will explore what the voice can do by first showing you the anatomy and physiology--meaning: what moves and why. You'll get multiple ways into the work: kinesthetic, visual, and auditory so that you can understand how the voice works and how to isolate the different parts.

LEARN THE PK METHOD

We will play with the voice in a variety of ways to help you feel and hear the major shifts you can make to alter how your voice is perceived and felt. We will utilize a Vocal Inventory to map out what we can see/feel/hear in someone's voice.

GET COACHED

We will fine-tune the adjustments you're making in the vocal tract to get you as close as possible to the speaker/singer sample you've chosen to analyze. You will be able to maintain that vocal tract action while applying it to other text, songs, or improvisation.

VOCAL TRANSFORAMTION

If you've studied with me before you may only need one session. However, if you've never studied with me before I'd recommend 2-3 sessions.

Vocal Transformation is the perfect fit if:

You want to learn about how your voice works
So you can both creatively use it and have more control with it
You want to do authentic impressions
But you don't know where to start
You've been curious about creating characters from the starting point of the voice
But you need a method so it's repeatable
You want to learn how to sing in different styles
But you feel locked into one or two styles
You're interested in voice over work
But you wish you had more control over your instrument
You want to learn accents and dialects
But you need a foundation of how to manipulate the vocal tract first

ACTOR COACH, EDUCATOR, CREATOR OF THE PK METHOD & THE MONOLOGUE DATABASE

PK (they/she)

Those who work with them call them “PK,” short for Professor Kollwitz—a nod to their decade as a Theatre professor before they transitioned to coaching full time. Melissa “PK” Tonning-Kollwitz is a distinguished actor coach and multi-hyphenate artist. Drawing on their MFA in Voice Studies from London's renowned Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, PK helps actors all over the world to unlock their potential through The PK Method—a hyper-practical, voice-centric approach to audition techniques and artistic growth.

Use your voice.

You don't need to "find" your voice; you need to learn how to use it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This is ideal for impressions, voice over work, character creation, singing styles, and folks looking to build their foundational work for accent and dialects.

Yes, I help singers to achieve vocal qualities required for different styles of singing. I also help singers sound authentically like other singers, so if, for example, you wanted to prepare for The Cher Show, I can help you.

Working on Vocal Transformation means you'll learn how to manipulate the vocal tract to sound like someone else (both speakers and singers). Some folks want to learn how to create characters from the starting point of the voice for voice over work or sketch comedy.

My goal as a coach is to meet my students where they’re at, not force an agenda, so you come as you are and we work from where you’re at. It’s as simple as that.

Your voice can do more than you think.

Unlock your voice's potential for expression, creativity, and joy.
